Frequently Asked Questions:

1. What is the overall cost?
Cost varies depending on where in the world you end up going. If you are approved and meet all of the necessary requirements, the Chapel may cover up to 50% of your expenses and you are responsible for raising support for the remaining amount.

2. What are the requirements?
  • Must be a member. Click HERE for more information on Membership Class.
  • Must enroll in missions course called "Pathways to Global Understanding."
  • This class is offered twice a year: In September and then again in January
3. Are there any additional costs?
  • The Pathyways course costs $50
  • If your health insurance is dependent upon being a full time student, a temporary plan will need to be purchased
  • Operation Mobilization may require a trip to their Atlanta office, you will be responsible for this airfare
  • There may be some other small fees associated with applications
  • Depending on which organization you go with, some additional training is required and costs could be involved
4. Is there an One Year option within the United States?
Yes. Mission Year is a One Year opportunity based in North America. If you decide to go with an overseas option, understand that you are really gone for a full year - which means no Christmas vacation or Spring Break.

5. Would I lose any college scholarships if I am gone for a year?
Every school varies. Most colleges look very favorably upon this kind of "humanitarian" effort. The best thing to do is to contact the school and work out the details on your own.

6. What if I go through this whole process only to find out I didn't get accepted?
It's always important to have a Plan B in place. Going on One Year is a privilege for a select few. You should continue to apply for colleges and/or seek employment as a back up plan should this not work out.

7. What if I'm not in 12th grade yet, is there anything I can do to prepare?
As you know this opportunity is only available for graduating seniors (and older). However, if One Year is something that interests you now, there are 3 things you could be working on:
  1. Keep praying for God's guidance.
  2. Go through the membership class.
  3. Enroll in the Pathways class.

*Once you complete your junior year of high school, you can begin the application process.
