Day 1:
Last week we looked at the words “broken” and “fixed”. We saw how Adam and Eve’s sin separated them from God. But, we also saw how God offered a way to make it right. A way where He could remain both a God of Justice and a God of Love.
Here is God’s new plan for His people. In the garden, Adam and Eve had only ONE rule. Let’s looks at some of the new rules for the human race.
Leviticus Chapters 11 through 15 spell out all of the new laws.
- Read Leviticus chapter 11.
- Write down the law that stands out to you the most.
- Can you imagine? Now write out a modern day version of Leviticus chapter 11 (ie. You can eat cool ranch Doritos, but not original, etc.)
Day 2:
Review yesterday's devotional. When you look at all the rules God put in place, doesn't it seem impossible to NOT break them? What about today. Do you think it would be possible for someone to NOT sin now?
If it's impossible to NOT sin, why bother even trying? Journal your thoughts...
Day 3:
We know from Leviticus that there are now new ways to break the law (sin) – there are so many more rules and restrictions. But there is also a new way to attone (make right) your sins.
- Read Leviticus 16:1-17 (we read this in dgroup, but read it again today).
- Write out all that is involved on the “day of atonement”.
- Put yourself in the shoes of a person who lived back then...
- What would you see on the day of atonement? What would you do? What would you smell? What would you hear?
Day 4:
Write out Leviticus 17:11. What is it that makes atonement?
- It was the blood of the animal that was killed to clothe Adam and Eve after they sinned.
- It was the blood of animals that were sacrificed on the day of atonement.
- Why did it have to be blood? Can you think of any other option?
Day 5:
How often a day do you think about your own sin?
- Write that number down.
- Spend some time right now and think about your own sin.
- What sins would you be bringing to confess on the “day of atonement” from just today? This week?
If you lived during these times, wouldn’t you be thinking….there has to be a better way?
